Her first collection Mná I Bhláth (which translates as Women in Bloom) was quite a personal one, dealing with Ireland’s difficult relationship with women through religion. “It was driven from a place of anger revolving around the power of the Catholic church and Irish mother-and-baby homes, where unwed women were sent for having children out of wedlock,” she explains. “These homes affected my family and so many others deeply.”
